A good book to get started Sep 10, 2009 This book is very easy to read and understand. I was able to sew a tote bag right away. However, I was disappointed at the small amount of information presented and it was hard to reference info as I needed.

Great for First Timers! Sep 07, 2009 This book is wonderful for first time sewers. I had just received my sewing machine and literally did not know where to start. This book explains it all. From what you need in your sewing kit, to easy patterns and projects to give you confidence to create your own pillows, totes and a simple skirt. I highly recommend for beginners.

get it from the library first Aug 04, 2009 This book is "Ok", and probably rates about 3.5 stars. I checked it out from the library, and I'm glad that I did. While it is a good book for teaching general information about sewing, I honestly think that once you read it, you won't need to keep it around. The patterns are really pretty cheesy, and very dated. There are only renditions of the items, and no photos of a completed project. They are very basic, and good for beginners with clear instructions, but you can find really CUTE beginner patterns out there without wasting time on something that you won't use, just for the sake of practice.

No real photographs Jun 21, 2009 I'm new to sewing and bought this book based on the reviews. The problem with this book is that there's no real photographs of the finished product. As a novice, a real picture of the end result would help to understand what I am making.
Excellent May 20, 2009 I love this book and I have kept handy ever since i began sewing. It has simple start up designs. I would recommend it. It gives a good foundation on the subject. I always keep looking back when i get stuck on something.
